This short article will show with three current examples how metallographic methods can be used to answer archaeological questions and which kind of information these methods provide. Besides the Nebra Sky Disk, the examination of metal specimens taken from an Iron Age torc as well as from medieval moulds is described. These artefacts are part of the collection of the State Museum for Prehistory in Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt.
