Development of Graphene nanocomposites from textile industry waste

The use of nanomaterials incorporated into the synthetic polymer can bring numerous advantages and new applications for this industrial waste. In this sense, reduced graphene oxide (RGO) will be used as a candidate for reinforcing the polyamide matrix, because of its functionalities, better ease of obtaining and good dispersion of its nanosheets in polymeric matrices. This work aims to process microfiber (textile waste), in order to obtain a material that can be reprocessed in future applications, recycled polyamide (PArec). It is then intended to obtain the thermal and chemical properties of this material, before and after the melting process and after mixing PArec plus RGO in its different concentrations, using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TG), spectroscopy in Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR). Later the samples will be processed by extrusion and mixtures will be prepared with different concentrations of RGO, the RGO will be added individually to PARec in four different contents: PARec without RGO (PARec-0), PARec with 0.1% of RGO (PARec-1 ), PARec with 0.5% RGO (PARec-5) and PARec with 1% RGO (PARec-10). Then plates will be manufactured by hot pressing and these plates will be cut, by a milling machine, specimens for mechanical tests. The mechanical properties will be obtained using tensile and impact tests. It is expected that the results obtained are equal to or superior to those observed in the bibliographical references of this work, such as the improvement of tensile strength, an increase in the modulus of elasticity of the material, in addition, an improvement in the temperature of crystallization, and stability thermal of the material is expected.
