Low temperature co-fired ceramics (LTCCs) offer 3D-circuits for a wide range of applications in telecommunications, microsystems and sensor technology.
Such housings are produced by combining structured and metallized ceramic layers using tape-casting and multilayer technology.
In-situ synchrotron X-Ray CT and Radiography at BAMline (BESSY II, Berlin, Germany) was used to investigate processes that happen during the sintering of the ceramic at 950°C.
Multiple techniques, such as Dual multilayer tilting and high dynamic range imaging were used to study the integrity, deformation, defects, positioning of the internal metal features, and the sintering dynamics and creation of cracks and voids within the ceramic.
