The aim of this work is the development of implant surfaces with a sequential release system. Antibacterial drugs will be released by an autonomous stimulus-responsive system. In a delayed second step, regenerative agents will be delivered to the surrounding tissue, stimulating regeneration of the defective areas around the implant. The creation of such a system will be challenging. Therefore, first, a layer-by-layer model system for the determination of suitable drugs and their effect mechanisms for the adaptation to the animal models will be constructed. Here, we present our first progress in terms of layer-by-layer coatings for pH-triggered drug delivery.
