The lecture will survey transformative technologies and method development advancing the field of metallomics. The role of inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry will be critically discussed covering state-of-the-art elemental speciation analysis and elemental bioimaging. Special emphasis will be given to the expansion of the latter towards multimodal imaging enabling powerful spatial metal biology. Showcase studies will be presented from a perspective of an analytical chemist, taking a journey through bioinorganic chemistry, studies on metals in health and disease, toxicology and diagnostics.
