Templated grain growth has been used on lead free piezoelectric materials to produce textured ceramics with better performance to that of lead-based materials. In this poster, the reaction temperature and time is shown to influence the degree of orientation of the crystal structure and the morphology of the NaNbO3 crystal grown. Aurivillius compounds prepared with molten salt method are used as templates for the topochemical conversion. The topochemical method is proven to be effective in producing NaNbO3 plates with high aspect ratio, providing an approach for manufacture of oriented lead-free piezoelectric ceramic and composites.
