It was observed in Many different Material Sciences Engineering approaches the benefits of using Semantic Web Technologies to store and improve their experiments. However, we want to show that an RDF graph in some cases is the best way to represent the workflow structure of material science experiments that can be represented using a graph structure.
We summarize state-of-the-art Material Science Engineering approaches which use Semantic Web technologies to improve their experiments. We provide a study involving specific areas from the Material Sciences Engineering domain, including Wire Electrical Discharge Machining (WEDM), Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), and Polymer Nanocomposites (PN). We also provide classification and Open Challenges involving those Semantic Web Technologies and Material Sciences domains.
Overall, our survey suggests that while Semantic Web technologies can enhance the quality of Material Science Experiments for various problems, the combination of both is still in its beginning. We aim to obtain feedback from Material Sciences Community further to improve the survey study’s structure and content.
