Erhard Hornbogen habilitated in Stuttgart in the early sixties, both scientifically and as a husband. After a few decades he came back to Stuttgart with his PhD student Petra Donner to let us do some atomistic investigations on his shape memory alloys.

In our later work we were able to elucidate the relationships of high temperature atomic processes in ordered intermetallic compounds, quasicrystals and bulk amorphous metals.
