The "Platform MaterialDigital" (PMD) funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), aims to develop a sustainable infrastructure for the standardized digital representation of materials science and materials engineering. To achieve this the PMD provides a prototypical infrastructure for the digitalization of materials implemented by decentralized data servers, standardized data schemas and digital workflows. Standards, methods, and tools developed within the platform are deployed and consolidated within the context of BMBF-funded academic and industrial research projects and made available to the material science community in general. In this context scientific workflows represent a major focus area, represented within the platform by the workflow frameworks pyiron and SimStack. We will present the different activities within this focus area including efforts on integrating semantic data as well as describing workflows semantically, or disseminating established workflows within the community through the workflow store. Next to a summary on the progress made with the academia-led projects of the first funding period, we will also provide an outlook on the planned activities with the industry-led projects of the second funding period.
