As part of the "FibreFlow" (AiF 21633N) research project, a fibre is being developed as a basis for shock-absorbing textiles, using a damping principle that is new for textiles. The aim is to develop fluid-filled hollow fibres. The functional principle of damping and thus energy absorption takes place through friction between the liquid and the inner surface of the fibre and is derived from nature. The peel of the pomelo (Citrus maxima), one of the largest fruits of the genus Citrus, serves as a biomimetic model. This consists of an open-pored foam-like cell structure formed by hollow interconnected fluid-filled webs. This damping principle is applied to fluid-filled hollow fibres in a biomimetic transfer process.
