α/β or near α titanium alloys are known for plastic anisotropy at the microstructural level, owing to the alpha (α) phase. The α phase possesses a hexagonal crystal structure (HCP) with lower symmetry. At the microscopic scale, these materials show both elastic as well as plastic anisotropy. Tensile tests were conducted on a rectangular specimen in order to correlate the anisotropic response with microstructural characteristics.
