The effect of Fe in solid solution on the recovery and recrystallization reactions of Al-Fe-Si alloys is well established. Here, the general influence of homogenization treatments between 500 and 620 °C on the precipitation behavior in 8xxx series foil stock alloys was investigated. The intermetallic phases were analyzed by electron microscopy and the development of elements in solid solution was determined by electrical conductivity measurements. The experimental results confirm a major temperature dependency of the precipitation processes and solute content. With increasing temperatures and longer holding times the particle size of the dispersoids grow and their number density declines, whereas the primary constituents undergo some phase transformations. When applying a two-step homogenization practice, where the material is cooled down to 550 °C after a prolonged time at a temperature above 600 °C, the strongest reduction of solute content is found.
