The presentation deals with the lightweight materials metal foam, fiber composites such as CFRP and GFRP, as well as hybrid mixed construction methods. Application examples from mechanical engineering and vehicle construction will be shown.

The focus is not only on lightweight construction, but also on integrating as many functions as possible. Functional integration refers to the goal of covering as many technical functions as possible with as few components as possible.

An example of such function integration as well as hybrid design is shown in the paper, which combines the materials steel hollow spheres, metal foam and solid steel to form a highly damping lightweight solution.
