Rapid plasma Deposition® is an Additive Manufacturing process within the DED (Direct Energy Deposition) class. This AM technology is based on wire as feed stock and plasma electric arcs as energy source. The technology has proven very suitable for manufacturing of metallic structures both for Aerospace and industrial applications. Due to the reduced material waste and reduced lead time offered, focus has so far been on utilizing the process for Titanium applications, where the Aerospace sector is a driver for AM technologies.

This presentation will highlight the key aspects of this AM technology, both advantages and challenges. Quality control of all aspects of the manufacturing is essential. Microstructure of Ti6Al4V applications and resulting mechanical properties will be presented.
