In recent years there has been an increased demand for new coating solutions with antimicrobial properties, especially against the increasingly common drug-resistant pathogens. The main point is to control the source of infection and to cut off the transmission routes to reduce its range. One of the possible ways to limit the transmission of pathogens may be the use of protective coatings that reduce the survival of pathogens on surfaces in public spaces. The main feature of the coatings shall be the inactivation of SARS-CoV-2 virus in particular. The coatings are intended for surfaces of sanitary fittings that come in contact with human skin most often; such surfaces have the highest level of susceptibility to transmit viruses and other pathogens. The main goal is to statically disinfect these elements and maintain a stable antiviral effect over time without the need of dynamic disinfection. This document focuses on the production and characterization of the ultra-fine CuO-ZnO composite powder, which turned out to be the most promising among the materials developed for such coatings.
