In the study of grain refinement, it is vital to determine the nucleation site. But in practice, finding and proving the nucleation site is often very difficult. To solve this problem and facilitate the development of grain refiners for Mg-Al alloys, this study established a new method for inferring possible nucleation sites based on cooling curve experiments and an inverse heat flow model.
