Computer-aided models and simulations are already an integral part of materials science and engineering. Applying material informatics will result in shorter development times, self-learning manufacturing processes and new business models, and have a huge potential for enhancing material and production efficiency. Anhalt University of Applied Sciences together with the Martin-Luther-University Halle-Wittenberg offers the part¬-time master's degree in “Materialinformatik” (Materials Data Science), which combines application¬-ready knowledge transfer from the disciplines of computer science and data science with materials science and engineering.

In particular, students will acquire extensive knowledge and skills in the fields of applied materials science and engineering as well as computer science and data analysis including material data acquisition, digital image processing, machine learning and material models and simulation tools. Among other things, the focus is on the development of data science applications in the material domain as well as the determination of process data and value chains for future product optimization, which are required in the context of the end-to-end digitization of lndustry 4.0. In addition to building up methodological knowledge, great importance is attached to the practical application of what has been learned: many exercises and the exchange with experts consolidate the acquired knowledge.

With this presentation, we like to discuss one of the first “Materialinformatik” master studies starting in summer term 2023 with other experts in the field.
