The lecture will cover the microstructure of cast and wrought (as-forged or as-rolled and powder metallurgy alloys) Ni and Ni-based alloys from nearly pure Ni to Ni alloys and superalloys to Nitinol, the shape-memory alloy. Examples of microstructures in various conditions including cold worked, solution annealed and solution annealed and aged will be shown in B&W and with color etchants. High-magnification images of γ' and γ'' strengthening phases will also be shown. Results using electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) on superalloys will also be shown.
