Large language models (LLMs) had their “ChatGPT moment” in November 2022. In the short time since, they’ve reshaped everything from education and white-collar work to daily routines. Materials science is no exception. In this talk, I will explore how LLMs are transforming the field - revolutionizing automated data extraction, accelerating knowledge discovery from the literature, and even enabling the generation of novel crystal structures. These advances mark a fundamental shift in how we do materials research.
