The article describes an approach for a calculation concept to close the gap between lightweight construction and necessary safety for structural components made of wood with use in mechanical engineering. A safety concept is presented which takes the wood-specific material characteristics into account and enables the calculation of a global safety factor. The calculation concept is presented exemplary based on demonstrators.
