Castings using the FCBC (Fluidized Carbon Bed Cooling) process were performed on the Ni-base superalloy CMSX-4 and compared with the conventional HRS (High Rate Solidification) process.  It was shown that with reduction of the process pressure in the FCBC, the temperature gradient can be raised even further. Up to 30% smaller PDAS were achieved in the low pressure FCBC compared to the HRS process.
