High entropy alloys (HEAs) are a novel grade engineering structure materials which attract the attention of the community due to the excellent mechanical properties and corrosion resistance. However, the too high content of specific alloying elements as well as the high cost of raw materials limit HEAs further application. This presentation includes two aspects of sustainability in HEAs. The first one is regarding the design of new grade dual-phase HEA to replace pure Co as the binder of manufacturing hard metals. Metal cutting tools made of cemented carbide are a strong pillar to today's industry. Finding a substitution for cobalt is a long-standing problem but worths to do. We design, produce and test a new cemented carbide with a replacement for Co. The second one is regarding using the low-cost ferroalloys (FeCr, FeNi, FeMn, etc.) to manufacture ultra-clean HEAs. The refining process, non-metallic inclusions, mechanical properties have been investigated. Both aspects contribute to provide environmental-friendly solutions to develop HEAs.
