For a better auditory perception in usage of cochlear implants, the electrode-nerve contact should be improved. To achieve this, a neuronal guidance scaffold and drug delivery system is designed which is attached to the cochlear implant. For this, polymer fibres made of polyglycolide and poly-ε-caprolactone are used. By coating these fibres with components of the extracellular matrix and the release of growth factors there should be an outgrowth of neurites. These neurites shall grow along the fibres towards the electrode to improve the electrode-nerve contact.
