In the L-PBF process, the rapid solidification condition with repeated heating and cooling cycles results in a refined microstructure with a highly segregated inter-dendritic region. Micro-segregation and high residual stress in the as-built condition require that the conventional heat treatment for L-PBF produced components is modified. This work deals with the optimization of the heat treatment cycle for L-PBF processed IN-718 components and its effect on microstructure evolution and mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.
