In general, welding uses a filler metal to create the deposited weld metal. Filler metal is important in welding by providing the necessary material to fill the joint and create. However, the existing filler metal is fed simultaneously as the heat source. It also requires a wire feeder, which is expensive and heavy. These properties are difficult for welding joints in limited working space and positions. Therefore, it is necessary to have a filler metal that open to easy working condisions.

Gel-type filler metal can replaced with existing welding filler metal. It has adhesion and flexibility to respond to limited working space and positions. It provides a new approach to welding by mixing metal powders with polymeric binders to create a gel-type paste. The gel-type paste was experimented with different mixing ratios of powder and binder. It is possible to use paste with various heat sources such as laser and arc. The mechanical properties were compared according to the mixing ratio.

The optimal conditions were found by comparing the mechanical properties after experimenting with different proportions of binder and powder. And it is easily applied to the welding that is defect-free and high-strength. The development of gel-type filler metal can be used in a variety of industrial manufacturing and can respond to different types of welded joints. It will provide a new welding filler metal and a new method for welding joints.
