The Laser-Flash method is a well-established method for measuring thermal diffusivities for bulk materials. Using analytical models for layered samples, the laser flash method has also successfully been used for measuring layered systems. However, in case of thermally thin layers, the conventional method of measuring the temperature rise at the non-excited backside comes to its limits. This is where front-side detection can be applied. A newly expanded set-up is described and the applicability of this new method is tested for single layer samples by comparing the front side diffusivity fit results with respective backside fit results.
