In this research, an alternative approach is being developed to industrially increase the value of incinerator bottom ash (IBA) in terms of providing secondary material sources for the metals and cement industries. Based on the current results, the comminution steps of IBA could already deliver a clear concentration stage, where the coarse fraction comprises metal-bearing particles and the fine fraction tendentially gathers mineral substances with relatively less content of heavy metals that could be an advantage for the cement industry. Furthermore, the as-milled fractions are subsequently classified using a sequence of separation processes to produce iron containing, non-ferrous-carrier, and consequentially much cleaner mineral fractions. Supported by the chemical analysis results followed by relevant laboratory tests, it is possible to take advantage of the metal-bearing fractions in the respective recycling processes and under certain circumstances charge in the mineral fraction for the clinker and concrete productions.
