Nanoindentation techniques are widely used leading to a variety of different mechanical designs and hardware-software concepts. They have a huge influence on the realization of experiments. Constrains are due to price and time budget limitations for testing, technical limitations, software options and user support.
The sm@rt 500 nanoindenter is designed to offer a versatile testing range and software concept to serve as a daily workhorse for standardized tests. The modern concept of microcontroller operated testing enables a high degree of customizing testing protocols and post-delivery updates. Add-on components can be integrated to be high speed synchronized with the indenter head using digital interfaces. We will show examples to demonstrate the high linearity of the sensor from µN to 800 mN. The microcontroller operated testing enables to speed-up the automated operation without data reduction or modification. This enables fast tests and mapping, while offering all the data obtained from traditional testing.
Smart concepts include testing parameter self-optimization routines using machine learning algorithms to estimate parameters for trustful results.
