Water shortage due to global warming and environmental pollution is a global problem to be solved. From the past to the present, a lot of research on water has been conducted. Among them, desalination techniques include reverse osmosis (RO), electrodialysis, and ion exchange. Capacitive deionization (CDI) is a promising technique for obtaining desalinated water by adsorbing ions by applying an electric potential to an electrode. Since CDI adsorbs ions selectively, it consumes less energy than other desalination technologies and has a high recovery rate.
The electrode of CDI is generally made of various carbon materials, and considerable research has been made to develop electrode material for CDI. Among them, porous carbon has been studied a lot as an electrode material for CDI.
In this study, porous carbon was prepared to improve the desalination performance of CDI. The physical properties of the prepared porous carbon were analyzed, and the desalination performance was confirmed.
