High-alloy TRIP/TWIP steels are since long-time in the focus of interest in particular of the automotive industry due to their extraordinary mechanical properties such as high strength at concurrently high ductility. Further improvement of mechanical properties of these steel grades can be achieved by significant reduction of the austenitic grain size due to thermomechanical treatment. In this context, the manufacturing of laminated TRIP/TWIP steel composites by roll bonding and/or accumulative roll bonding is expected to further improve the mechanical properties. The presentation will demonstrate the manufacture of two- and four-layered laminate composite made by TRIP and TWIP steels via roll bonding including challenges and difficulties. In addition, detailed microstructural results, in particular at the bonding zone, regarding to grain size, texture and formation of deformation lenses via brushing processes will be presented together with improved mechanical properties obtained during both tensile tests and peel tests.
