The experimental alloy creep rate is reduced and the creep life is improved significantly when Ta is added. However, it should be noted that Ta causes dynamic splitting of gamma prime and grain boundary degradation. Mo and Cr segregation at grain boundaries in Ta-containing alloys occurs at all creep conditions, the catastrophic reduction in creep life is closely related to the continuous coarsening of σ precipitates at the grain boundaries, the cracking occurs before most of the grains are involved in plastic deformation. However, the steady-state creep rate is controlled by a combination of factors.  In the alloy design of PM Ni-base superalloy, it should be considered to reduce Mo and Cr in high Ta alloy and increase W to improve the high temperature creep performance.
