Seamless steel pipes used for oil & gas industry have increased in strength continuously in order to improve the project efficiency by increase the pressure and at the same time decreasing project costs by reducing the wall thickness and consequently the pipe weight. Application of high strength steel as riser material as well as flowline is an attractive alternative. In this study, it was investigated the product performance of high strength steel grade such as X80 and X100. Steel chemistry design is the first step of this process and thermodynamics simulation is one tool that helps in the initial step. Further process simulations of steel production such as hot rolling and heat treatment complement the successful methodology on achieving front-end steel products for harsh environment applications.

In this study it is demonstrated that fundamental metallurgy knowledge associated with up-to-date technology on computer simulation and materials characterizations can lead to successful product development in an efficiently manner.
