The Iron based catalyst for Haber-Bosch Process is worldwide known methodology for the commercial production of ammonia which accounts for 2% of annual global energy consumption making it as major source of greenhouse gas emission. To overcome this issue, electrochemical Nitrogen reduction (e-NRR) is an efficient alternative approach as it utilises aqueous electrolyte and nitrogen gas as reactant. With this motivation, we are using single source precursor Iron (III) tert-butoxide to produce Iron oxide based thin films for electrocatalytic ammonia formation under ambient conditions with the vision to reduce the cost and possibility to replace traditional Haber-Bosch process scaling up e-NRR to industrial grounds. The catalyst formation on the electrode surface takes place through chemical vapour deposition (CVD) method as it allows for precise control of the composition, structure, and morphology of the deposited films. Our experiments represent high amount of ammonia formation in basic aqueous electrolyte which can be quantified through indophenol blue method. This study extends the use of CVD method as promising technique for electrocatalysts formation for complex electrochemical reaction mechanisms.
