Tooth implants are one of the most frequent surgeries worldwide. In approximately 50 % of cases, a preliminary reconstruction of bone tissue is necessary. Therefore, guided bone remodeling (GBR) is performed, where usually a bone substitute material is modelled and fixated using a GBR-membrane. Amongst other, these membranes are required to be mechanically stable under wet conditions and act as a barrier, locking fast proliferating gingival endothelial cells out of the bone cavity. At the moment, neither non-resorbable nor resorbable membranes can fully display the required properties. Here, we present a multilayered scaffold with graded properties that combines benefits of both GBR-membrane types.
