Preliminary solar ageing of new advanced ceramic materials for solar receivers

A test bench for the ageing of advanced ceramic specimens under concentrated solar radiation has been developed at CIEMAT-PSA SF40 Solar Furnace. Different ceramic materials (alumina, zirconia, alumina-zirconia mixtures, mullite, etc.) have been selected. Substrates has been prepared by uniaxial pressing and pre-sintered in air. The aim is to check their behaviour under real high flux solar conditions to check the feasibility and limits of these materials in a CSP operational environment.
