A field study about the status quo of engineering materials and their processes used in the European automotive remanufacturing industry was carried out and will be discussed. Empirical results about which specific materials, which material classes and material families are remanufactured so far in which quantities and for how many life cycles will be presented. A further aim of the current field study is the analysis which materials are not remanufactured and potential influencing parameters for the remanufacturability of a material will be deduced. Finally, conclusions for material selection in the context of Circularity and especially about an improved "Design for Remanufacturing" are drawn.
