Paediatric fractures in the area of the physis, where longitudinal growth of the long bones takes place, are particularly delicate. The implantation of non-resorbable implants through the physis can lead to growth discrepancies. In contrast to titanium implants, we found that trans-epiphyseal implantation of resorbable Mg-Zn-Ca implants did not have a negative influence on the length growth of juvenile sheep tibiae. Therefore, Mg-Zn-Ca represents a new potential implant material for the treatment of paediatric physeal fractures.
