Femto-second laser ablation inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (fs-LA-ICP-MS) has become the preferred instrumentation for high-precision isotope studies due to the minimised laser-induced fractionation at the ablation site. The ICP-MS therefore most utilised for this application is the multi-collector ICP-MS. Here, we show the versatility and applicability of fs-LA-ICP-MS for trace element imaging, utilising a single collector ICP-MS instrument. With optimised conditions of both the ablation characteristics and beam delivery, application of the technique to different geological matrices is demonstrated.
