In this work we have studied phase formation in Inconel 625 during non-equilibrium solidification in situ, by using electromagnetic levitation (EML) and high-energy X-ray diffraction (XRD) at the German Electron Synchrotron DESY in Hamburg, Germany. The application of a fast flat-panel X-ray detector enabled to follow the solidification path with a high time and temperature resolution. The microstructure and phase constitution of the samples were analysed by employing standard metallographic procedures and techniques.
