Replicating nacre feature into artificial structural materials with impressive structural and mechanical similarity is still very challenging, especially for further scale-up. The main aim of this research is producing large-sized, three-dimensional artificial composite with comprehensive mimicry of the toughening mechanism and brick-and-mortar structures of natural nacre can be used as biomimetic and bioactive implants for replacing or repairing bones. In this regard, brushite platelet nacre-mimetic films can be facilely fabricated via a bottom-up assembly process following which laminating pre-fabricated two-dimensional films to form the nacre-like artificial composites. To this end, synthesized brushite platelet with average lateral size of 9 µm and average thickness of 764 nm with specific ratio is mixed with sodium alginate to prepare water-evaporation self-assembled nacre-mimetic films.
