In this work, a tetra-pyridyl porphyrin was utilized as cathode active material in calcium batteries, as porphyrins have already demonstrated that they can operate in versatile battery configurations including Li-, Na-, K-, Al- and Mg- batteries. Besides expansive characterization of the porphyrin active material itself, we have performed widescale electrochemical testing and found out that porphyrins showed interesting performance including good stability and high discharge capacities at elevated currents. To further boost these properties, we developed a copper containing framework, which was studied equivalently.
