The detection of fluorinated compounds (FCs) in biological and environmental samples presents significant challenges due to fluorine’s high ionization potential. Recent advancements in ICP-MS technology, such as the online addition of ionic Ba-solutions to form BaF+ ions (m/z 157), have enhanced the detection capabilities for fluorine. This work showcases novel methodologies using LA-ICP-MS and SP-ICP-MS, enhancing fluorine analysis capabilities in diverse matrices. These methodologies offer expanded versatility for ICP-MS, enabling more precise detection and mapping of fluorine's distribution in complex biological and environmental matrices, providing deeper insights into its role and impact within these systems.
