Laser welding of thick plates (8mm or more) of Cast Haynes 282 poses challenge with cracking in Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) post welding. These cracks adversely affect the Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) performance of the welds and hence poses negative impact on design consideration. Attempts have been made in this study to tune pre weld heat treatment with combinations of isothermal holds and cooling rate combinations to minimize and eliminate cracks. The results of the effort is presented with selection of few heat treatments for which Laser Welding were carried out. Evaluation of Laser Welding with the new heat treatments show the effectiveness of these relatively short cycle heat treatments.
