The research work focuses on the characterization of impact damage in a non-destructive fashion utilizing the X-ray CT methods and the correlation of the impact-specific damage characteristics with guided ultrasonic wave (GUW) pitch catch measurements. In the following work, identical GLARE 5-5/4 were utilized for the experimentation and were individually impacted with energies of 5J, 7.5J, 10J and 12.5J . These impacted plates were utilized for GUW measurements and were further examined with X-ray CT for damage characterization and assessment of damage morphology. The aim of the research work is to provide a correlation of GUW signals on impact-damaged plates with impact-specific damage characteristics to enable damage identification. A correlation of the GUW signals and wave propagation characteristics with the corresponding impact damage characteristics will enable an effective and enhanced damage detection, localization and identification leading to comprehensive damage diagnostics.
