This presentation will give an overview of recent developments in the field of operando imaging on batteries at Helmholtz-Zentrum Berlin (HZB) with a special focus on lithium mapping. To study the distribution of lithium and/or the lithiation process in a battery electrode different imaging techniques are of particular importance: Synchrotron X-ray phase contrast imaging with high contrast for lithium; X-ray absorption edge spectroscopic imaging providing chemical information on the lithiation process; and finally neutron imaging that has high sensitivity to lithium even inside strong X-ray absorbers like NMC particles or ceramic solid state electrolyte batteries.
