We will present an ICME simulation workflow which integrates thermal simulations on the length scale of the melt pool for a single track and microstructure simulations on the length scale of the dendritic solidification microstructure. Simulated microstructures for the austenitic steel 316L and two different processes, wire arc (WAAM) and wire laser (WLAM) additive manufacturing, will be compared and confronted with micrographs obtained by SEM and corresponding alloying element maps from EDX.

Beside the discussion of the simulation results for the microstructure evolution and element segregation during the cooling path, the presentation will address computational aspects like data exchange between the different simulation programs and how to implement the workflow on the simulation platform AixViPMaP in order to allow automated parameter studies.
