Laser-assisted coating is one of the most advanced coating techniques. The primary benefits of this method over conventional methods include excellent surface properties with controlled heat input, minimal dilution, and good metallurgical bonding of coating material with the substrate. It has wider applications in the aerospace, automotive, and manufacturing industries. In the present study, Stellite 6-based metal matrix composites (MMC) have been fabricated with varying reinforcement contents via laser powder bed fusion (LPBF). To improve the hardness and wear resistance properties of Stellite 6, incorporations of hard TiC ceramic particles have been made. Firstly, process parameter optimization was carried out to deposit a uniform and dense coating by analyzing the melt pool behavior of single laser and multilayer tracks. Furthermore, the effect of the optimized parameters was studied on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the prepared MMC coatings.
