TiAl alloys have enormous potentials for high temperature and future applications due to their good combination between low density and high heat resistance. During the last years, several additive manufacturing processes have been used and developed to produce TiAl Alloys [1-2]. However, the main concerns remain developing the best combination between the microstructure and thermo-mechanical properties, as well as manufacturing of large sized components by a high economic, efficient process. In this presentation, a newly developed wire-based laser metal deposition process (LMD-w) for in-situ production of large sized components of TiAl alloys under vacuum will be described.
