Using wood-based cellulose nanofibrils, we have developed a novel nanopaper. Employing layer-by-layer cellulose nanofibril deposition, ultrasmooth films with distinct porosity and tunable surface properties were established. The nanopaper shows reversible nanoscale transformation during cyclic humidity. in combination with plasmon-active nanoparticles, this novel biomaterial template opens the way for sensor-applications.
