This study investigates the feasibility of improving the geometric accuracy of a target sample by incorporating an elastic material and a movable support module into die-less incremental sheet forming to prevent unintended material deformation. The elastic material is placed between the sheet and the movable stage to induce compressive support loads as the sheet is incrementally deformed into a targeted 3D profile by the forming tool. In the experiments, the effect of support loads induced by the elastic material on the deformation behavior of the sheet is investigated by varying the amount of compression. The experimental results show that adding a movable stage to control the compressive load increases the efficiency of the ISF process and reduces the unintended deformation of the material compared to the conventional ISF method, improving the geometry accuracy of the target sample.
